Hello Apple Betty

Hello Apple Betty

National Apple Betty Day has just passed, but the weather demands this dish more than ever. And, of course, with great seasonal apples now available, it’s the perfect time to make a betty.

A “betty” is essentially a baked pudding with layers of spiced, sugared fruit and buttery breadcrumbs.

A dish from colonial America, it is often made with apples and is a member of that class of desserts that includes crisps (pictured here) and cobblers and such.

And as a class, they are quite delicious and get an “A” (for apple).
