Hami Melon

Hami Melon

I saw one of these the other day — kind of like a cantaloupe, the hami melon is minor member of the musk melon family that hails from Hami, China.

It also might be called a snow melon, which is appropriate given the piles of the stuff we have outside. Hamis are sweet and succulent and sources of vitamins, phosphorus, calcium and iron. To find ripe ones, look for darker gold colour and a skin that yields to slight pressure when you press it with your fingers.
