I visit restaurant kitchens on a regular basis and am always on the lookout for random pieces of culinary culture.
This is one such example I spotted in a Waterloo kitchen: a battered edition of Food Lover’s Companion originally published in 1990.The classic reference book by the late Sharon Tyler Herbst and Ron Herbst is chock-full of thousands of bits (and bites) of information from A to Z.
It’s a terrific tome that is now in its fourth edition, and it was pretty interesting to find this well-used copy in amongst the pots and pans and warming lights of the restaurant.
If you don’t have it, get it. Tried to find it used: you never know what restaurant it has visited, nor the possibly famous chef who has thumbed its pages.
