Potatoes To Help Others

Potatoes To Help Others

Here’s how you can help others less fortunate – with potatoes. As it winds down, February has been “Potato Blitz” month for “The House of Friendship,” an agency of the United Way.

Incredibly, House of Friendship will use 200,000 pounds of potatoes in its 19 programs that help feed those in need. I have no idea what 200,000 pounds of potatoes would look like–but it’s a lot if you imagine a single five-pound bag.

At the end of January, the social-help organization held its “Don Cameron Potato Blitz Night” during the Kitchener Rangers hockey game.  The “Supermarket Blitz” ran February 11, and the “Community Potato Lunch” takes place this week on February 24 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kitchener. Come on down!

Help feed your neighbours here in the Region and drop by the community lunch where a “Soup Idol” contest will be held.
