Weekend Sweets

Weekend Sweets

Some people describe themselves as sweet; others savoury. For the former, here are a few selections for pastries, danish, and other scrumptious dessert fare for this weekend and into next. It is simply a case, here at WREats, of sweets for the sweet. For the latter, well you’re outta luck this time. Sorry.

[Remember: check with individual restaurants regarding their hours.]

Sabletine Fine Pastries

Fine French pastries in mid-town between Kitchener and Waterloo. Simple and basic salads, soups, and sandwiches for lunch, but a Gallic constellation of fabulous ventoux, croissants, éclairs, Danish, apple Tatin, and a variety of French breads and other sweets.

Nougat Bakery and Delicatessen
600 Queen Street S
, Kitchener
519-570-1303
www.nougat.ca

What a great shop to have in Kitchener’s core: at once cafe, deli, and bakery, Nougat has 250 pastries in its repertoire, and serves breakfasts and lunches with unique flavours and ingredients. Of course, there’s the charming European air to the place as well.

And, oh, the pastries! Among their most popular are the inimitable paczki, which are an even more popular Lenten treat.

The Silver Spoon
Address: 217 King Street W, Kitchener
Open: Daily
Cost: Lunch for two is about $30
Contact: 519-579-6979

Ultra-smooth lemon ice cream: I scream too.

Fair trade artisan chocolate, home-made ice cream, fresh baked goods, fair trade and organic coffee and tea are the most obvious elements of The Silver Spoon to sample but give the soup, salad, and sandwich menu a try. Afternoon tea too.

A luscious "Crown Royal" chocolate...one of many at Silver Spoon.
